A moment of excitement…

…when I thought I’d glimpsed an original oil painting by Doris Zinkeisen at Fleetville Vintage Emporium in St Albans.

But it was only a print, in rather a nasty frame. I decided to let someone else find it. Although I’m really drawn to it, looking at the photo. I discovered Doris Zinkheisen from The High Toby, a Puffin toy theatre book from 1948 for which she did the lovely illustrations:

She also did this terrific railway poster.

She was a gorgeous, society beauty but also a marvellous artist-illustrator, if a tiny bit twee. She’s my guilty pleasure.
